The Migrant Journey
While much of the focus on immigration in the United States has been centered on the U.S.-Mexico border, there is much more than just crossing that border that goes into the the journeys of Central American migrants. Crossing the border from Guatemala to Mexico was a feat that many migrants at Casa del Migrante were attempting after staying for a few days of food and shelter. The sorts of struggles that these migrants face in their journey through Guatemala and Mexico were aspects of migration that I had never considered prior to my service work in Tecún Umán. In this section, I aim to expose the difficulties the Central American migrants face as they travel in search of a better life.
